Abergele Community Shop Assistant
Area: Abergele
Base: Abergele Community Shop, Abergele and Pensarn station buildings.
Fixed term contract until January 2025 (with possibility of extension with funding)
Salary: £9,360 (f/t equivalent £23,400)
Hours: 15 Hours weekly
Holidays: 28 days including Public Holidays and pro rota

Overall responsibility of the job:
As the Abergele Community Shop assistant your role will be to assist the Community Shop manager to develop a community shop using a cooperative model, recruiting and leading a group of volunteers in establishing and operating the community shop. Engaging with the local community to provide a service that is dignified and encompasses our vision of ending the need for foodbanks in the UK.

About the role: Emergency food provision is a changing landscape, and every food bank needs to be able to respond to the needs of their local community. Being part of a diverse network helps us to do this whilst at the same time having a common set of values to inform how we support people and bring about an end to the need for foodbanks in the UK.
As the Abergele Community Shop assistant your role will be to assist the Community Shop manager to develop a community shop using a cooperative model, recruiting and leading a group of volunteers in establishing and operating the community shop. Engaging with the local community to provide a service that is dignified and encompasses our vision of ending the need for foodbanks in the UK.
Duties and responsibilities
· Assist in the management of operations to deliver Abergele Community Action’s strategic vision
· Assist in overseeing the community shop’s opening hours, engaging with members and volunteers to ensure community needs and relationships are the focus of the service
· Assist in overseeing stock levels, placing orders, buying food when needed and finding solutions to ongoing supply chain issues,
· Assist in overseeing administrative procedures for membership scheme
· Stay up to date with all statutory regulations and guidelines that are pertinent to the running of the larder
· Assist in overseeing coordinating, supervising and consulting volunteers
· Assist in overseeing preparing quarterly reports for trustee meetings
· Assist in overseeing financial procedures for the larder, including cash security and banking
· Participate in on-going training

· Good communication
· Experience in working with and leading volunteers
· Excellent organisational ability and problem-solving skills
· Excellent people skills, including experience in dealing with people who may present challenging behaviour
· Good IT skills
· Empathy and ability to work with people from disadvantaged, marginalised, or socially excluded backgrounds
· Passionate about tackling poverty and ending UK poverty
· Honesty and integrity
Desirable
· A current driving licence and access to a car
· Experience of food-based stock control systems and food hygiene procedures
· Experience in recruiting and training volunteers
